Washington DC: Georgian Wine Tasting: Trade & Media: Monday, September 27th

September 27, 2021

Join us for a walk-around tasting from 40+ Georgian wineries already in the market and 30+ wineries yet to be discovered on Monday, September 27 from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Maydan in Washington DC

Guests will have the opportunity to meet producers and deepen their knowledge of one of the most dynamic (ancient yet emerging) wine regions in the U.S. market.

2020 was marked by the sixth straight year of year-over-year growth averaging over 34%. Further, this trend continues to hold strong with exports up 35% during the first six months of 2021.

For more on this growth trend, go here for the full release. The quality and diversity of Georgian wine now available in the US continues to grow.  Visitors to the tasting will be able to sample a broad range including:

Traditional Qvevri Wines in Amber and Red Styles

It was with these highly distinctive wines that Georgia first caught the attention of the world. The category has developed to include both ‘natural’ wines, as well as examples that combine the intriguing character of qvevri wine with contemporary accessibility.

Classic Dry Whites

There’s more to Georgia than qvevri wine, and there will be many examples of the lively, delicately perfumed, textured dry whites

Classic Dry Reds

Delicious dry reds from Saperavi and other indigenous grapes will be presented, ranging from the juicy, unoaked medium-bodied to the intense, tannic and age-worthy.

Sparkling and Pet-Nat

And let’s not forget one of the newest categories to emerge from Georgia!

Wines will be poured for wineries showcasing their wines for the first time in the market as they seek representation as well as importers/distributors who will be presenting current wines available in the market.

Georgian Ambassador to the United States, David Bakradze will join the event and provide a welcome on behalf of the Georgian wine community.

Thank you to our friends at Maydan who will be providing their delicious hummus; beet borani; zucchini baba ganoush and squash blossoms; along with housemade cheese and olives.

Licensed trade and media only.

Appropriate table spacing will be set up at Maydan’s open in-door/out-door space at the entrance to the alley. Other precautions will be in place with regular sanitizing, closed crachoir, disposal of wines, individual cups, etc.
