Oreste Wine Estate
Data and Capucine met during their Enology Master Degree in France and fell in love. After few vintages abroad, Data yearned to reconnect with his roots in Georgia and Capucine wanted more fulfilling sense of purpose, so it became an evidence when they found the perfect piece of land in Kakheti.
They live surrounded by the majestic Caucasus Mountains on an idyllic plot of land in front of 11th century Alaverdi Monastery.
The estate consists of 6 hectares of organic farming: 4,5ha of future vineyard, 1ha of walnut trees, and 1ha of orchard and arable lands for permaculture. Limited hectares will allows them to meticulous care of the vines that will be grown organically.
Today, their objective is to understand the wine with their knowledge of science and find the equilibrium between old-world wine making techniques and modern technology.
They maintain a minimal intervention and ancestral approach to winemaking, letting the wine to express a sense of place and a true representation of distinctive authoctaunous grapes.
In their Marani, spontaneous fermentation takes place in traditional qvevris, and grapes patiently macerate on their skins for up to 8 months. Long maceration gives a very unique structure, incredibly rich in polyphenols and aromatic compounds. Oreste wines are aged for a long time in qvevris, until they find balance.
The clay of qvevris gives full freedom of expression to the grapes and gives the wine the chance to reconnect to the earth. Oreste wines are bottled without filtration. Oreste wines are a tribute to the origin of wine.
