STORY

Chona’s Marani, a small family winery in the Kakheti region of Georgia, has a century-long legacy of producing natural wines using traditional Kakhetian methods passed down through the generations. At their winery in Telavi, the Chonishvili family produces wines in clay qvevri from native Kakhetian grape varieties—Mtsvane Kakhuri, Rkatsiteli, and Saperavi. Visitors to the marani experience winetasting accompanied by Georgian polyphonic singing, an important part of the family’s heritage and daily life.

Chona’s Marani wines contain only organically grown grapes harvested from the family’s vineyard, a gently sloping 2-hectare parcel in the Tsinandali microzone of the Alazani Valley. The vineyard sits at 550 meters above sea level. All winery operations, from planting to bottling, are carried out by members of the family.

Chona’s Marani is a member of the Natural Wine Association.
